Children's Education

Early Childhood Education (Infants/Toddlers/Pre-School)

Our goals in our Early Childhood Education Program are to nurture and enrich the children's lives and to prepare them for kindergarten. For the children ages 6 months to 3 years we focus on socialization and motor perception. For the children ages 3 to 5 we focus on socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical development. The children learn colors, shapes, numbers, letters, pre-reading, and pre-math skills. While the children are learning, their parents are learning too! The parents attend a parenting class and a parent support group.

Homework Club

Monday through Thursday, children seek out the environment and protection of the learning center at SHCS. They bring their school assignments and, together with the help of a qualified volunteer, work on and complete their homework. As part of the Homework Club, children are also offered enrichment programs such as art and dance, provided by Tapestry Arts. They also attend monthly field trips to such places as The Tech Museum, The Children's Discovery Museum, and Happy Hollow Zoo.

Academic Summer Day Camp

ASDC is an intense (but fun!) 5-week summer program that offers core academic subjects such as math, reading/writing, and computers. There are enrichment programs as well. These include art, creative writing, photography, ballet, folklorico dance, Girl Scouts, newspaper, recorders, yearbook, computer design, and theme class. Academic Summer Day Camp prepares the student to enter the next grade in the fall.
